BIO, etc
I grew up in the piedmont region of North Carolina where much of the soil content is clay. As a child I played in the mud extensively. I love and respect the earth and its products. I grow a vegetable garden every year and I am very environmentally aware.
I lived in Eugene , Oregon for several years after graduating from high school. While there I attended the University of Oregon , majoring in art/sculpture. My creative style began to surface and I found myself working with clay. After moving back to North Carolina , I began creating pottery in my father's garage, which eventually turned into my studio.
Painstakingly one of a kind, you will not find my pottery duplicated anywhere. I build all of my pieces by hand, mostly using the coil method. My work is a refreshing break from traditional pottery, leaning in a sculptural direction.
My creations run from small turtles and mushrooms to large coil pots, from realistic looking waves with tiny surfers in action positions, to giant face pots with earthy colors of glaze, from modern fossil bowls, to shrines and fish. It has been said that I have a whimsical streak that reveals itself in my intricate creations.
I also show at many festivals and art shows. I consider the unique and often unusual style of my work to be my forte.
